- Travel Destination: Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
See our founder, Dave's top picks for where to stay, what to wear, and where to go in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Puerto Vallarta is a beach resort on the Pacific Ocean's Bahia de Banderas in the Mexican state of Jalisco. To the north, it borders the state of Nayarit and to the east, it borders the municipalities of Mascota and San Sebastian del Oeste and to the south, it borders Talpa de Allende and Cabo Corrientes. Puerto Vallarta is named after Ignacio Vallarta, the former governor of Jalisco. In Spanish, Puerto Vallarta is frequently shortened to "Vallarta," while English speakers tend to call the city P.V. for short. Many refer to it by PVR, after its main airport. Here are the On the Rocks founder, Dave's top picks for where to stay, what to wear, and where to go while in Puerto Vallarta: WHERE TO STAY: Pinnacle Resorts - Modern Mexican vibe, gorgeous views Villa Lola - Boutique bed & breakfast hotel, more traditional and quaint WHAT TO WEAR: Overall Dress Code in Puerto Vallarta: By Day: Casual By Night: Dressy Casual with a focus on color and pattern As one would expect, men's style in Puerto Vallarta is resort oriented, but with a generally casual and laid back feeling, unlike the posh vibes that emanate in resort destinations like St. Tropez or the Amalfi coast. Due to the hot (and sometimes humid) weather, shorts and short sleeve shirts by day and in most places at night are the norm here. But if you're headed to a fancy dinner or a night on the town at an upscale club with a strict dress code, you will want to bring a lightweight linen or cotton pant to pair with any of our signature short-sleeve shirts. Don't be afraid to wear vibrant colors and patterns - the more unique and colorful the better! - Cocktail Recipe: Desert Sunrise
Dave, our founder and head bartender (sorry, we mean designer) created this sunny, refreshing and easy cocktail perfect for an outdoor brunch or late afternoon, poolside. Cheers! Difficulty Level Easy Ingredients 1 part Vodka 1/5 part Cointreau 1 part Fresh Grapefruit Juice (you can also use chilled "cold pressed" grapefruit juice, which is often easier to find - try to avoid using pasteurized grapefruit juice) 1 part Dole Canned Pineapple Juice (we recommend using Dole's "not from concentrate" juice in cans as it tastes better than the chilled cartons, which are pasteurized and from concentrate) Directions Place all of the ingredients in a pitcher. Be sure to vigorously stir the ingredients and pour into glasses filled 3/4 with ice. Garnish You can garnish with a pineapple spear, grapefruit wedge, and/or sprig of rosemary. To spruce up your already glam cocktail, add a salt or chili-salt rim for a more savory cocktail.
